I chose this photo because of the many compositional elements that make it a strongly appealing picture. The photo exemplifies positive and negative space with the negative space in the sky area and the positive space on the bottom with the building and trees. There is texture shown on the roof and a pattern of differently colored rectangles on the building. I took this photo on my phone from a fairly large distance away while elevated on top of a hill. The photo was taken during the daytime and the white balance would've been set to sunlight with the ISO being set very low. This photo communicates an interesting point of view since the building is set in the bottom left corner of the photo with ample amounts of negative space around it. It creates a mystery as to where this picture could've been taken, it looks as if it could be set in Rome or somewhere near my home.
I selected this photo because of the strange yet appealing use of painting with light. Compositionally there are lines that surround Eric's body and these lines are different in how bright they are and how thick they are. I believe that the main focal point is Eric and the green outline but a very underestimated aspect of the picture is the shadow of his head in the top left corner of the photo. I think that this could be just as much of a main focal point since it is located in an effective spot thanks to the rule of thirds. The green outline in the background is especially fascinating since it forms around his body and isn't out of place. Technically, the shutter speed was set for a long period of time, around 7-12 seconds. The ISO was set at a very large number since the lights were turned off with the only light supplies being the red and green lights. This photo conveys an eerie demeanor with the strange shadow of his head lurking in the background. It is interesting how Eric looks as if he is almost god-like with a green halo that surrounds his whole body.
I picked this photo because of the relationship between sunlight and nature. The wood creates texture and contains lines that lead your eyes from the bottom of the photo to the top of the photo. There is an intense clash between positive and negative space. The negative space in the photo is leaves in the top left and the wood at the top that is smothered by sunlight. The positive space of the shadow from the leaves is captivating on the negative space from the wood. The photo was taken at a shallow depth of field. The ISO used would be around 400 with a white balance of sunlight. The photo was taken from an interesting point of view of looking down the wood at angle above the wood. This point of view brought out the linearity of the wood and the features such as the lines. One thing I liked about the photo was the hole type thing in the middle of the wood, which I think is one of the main focal points since it separates itself from the rest of the woods design.
I chose this photo because of the awesome concept that was displayed. The background of the photo was made because of the point of view in which the photo was taken. The picture was taken from a couple feet away and in the point of view you can only see one person and the shadows of that person and another person who is not seen. The shadows are fascinating shapes that take the attention away from the only human in the photo. A fast shutter speed was used to capture the action along with a high ISO. The lighting in the photo came from one single light that was set towards the left and pointed slightly upwards. I really like this photo because it shows the versatility of photography such that you can go from taking self portraits to taking pictures of a shadow attacking another shadow. The photo creates a spooky and unsuspecting mood with the figure in the background appearing to dangerous but that figure only being shown through their shadow.
I selected this photo because it's simplicity with the gray scale. Compositionally, the branches that cover the view of the shed serve as lines. The lines can sometimes be leading such as the darker branch that runs to the top left corner. There is texture in the photo that covers the branches, along with the use of the rule of thirds with the cracked open door appearing in the bottom left and the point where the branches meet in the bottom right. The photo was captures using a medium depth of field so that the features of the branches and shed could be displayed. A medium ISO around 800 and a white balance of cloudy were used to take the most dynamic photo possible. I think that the point of view is fantastic in that when you look at the photo you are looking through the branches. There is a sense of curiosity in the photo since there isn't many branches in front of the door which is slightly ajar. The view from behind the branches could mean that a person was hiding or stalking someone.
I picked this photo because of the aperture that takes you through a run down childhood playground. This photo displays different kinds of shapes such as the shape of the handle bars, the rock climb footing, and shapes from where the wood crosses. There is a leading line that starts on the right of the handle bar and goes down the rock climbing area. The picture was taken from about a foot or two away and was positioned head on and slightly to the right. The handle bars are an example of aperture with a shallow depth of field. It was cloudy so there was a lack of lighting and in result a white balance of cloudy was used to take the photo. The leading lines were an unexpected composition that I didn't notice until I looked at the photo following taking it. The photo has somewhat of a eerie mood to it with the playground being run down and since it is run down the colors were drained out over the years being replaced by shades of grey.
